Nigeria was put into mourning as news of the death of Nigerian Presidential Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, was made public in the early hours of Saturday, April 18, 2020. News of the death of the President’s right hand man was made public by Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu through a tweet that has left Nigerians sending messages of condolence to the deceased family. Kyari who had been diagnosed of the novel corona virus (Covid- 19), lost the battle to the invinsible enemy. Aside corona virus, Kyari had other underlying health problems including diabetes.

The Presidency regrets to announce the passing of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari…The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020. May God accept his soul. Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly

Kyari who is in his 70s was top aide to 77-year-old President Muhammadu Buhari and one of the most powerful figures in Nigerian politics. Since the outbreak of the pandemic corona virus in Nigeria, the country has recorded 493 cases and 17 deaths with Kyari becoming the highest ranking government official to loose his life to the virus. Abba Kyari is to be buried today in Abuja.
