Hiding my sorrows and covering my smiles

But after a while, you will learn the subtle difference between

Holding a hand and chaining a soul

You learn that Love doesn’t mean leaning

And company doesn’t mean security

You begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts

And presents aren’t promises

You begin to accept your defeat on a wounded knee like warriors

With the grace of an Adult not the grief of a child

You learn to build your roads on today

Because the slate of tomorrow is in the hands of uncertainty

After a while you learn that sunshine burns if you get too much

So plant your garden and decorate your soul

Never wait for strangers to bring you flowers

And you learn that a Quiet whisper breaks a loud Silence
