The African Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET) has announced the 2026 Young Leaders in Research (YLR) Grant, offering 12-month research funding for early-career African researchers conducting policy-oriented studies that contribute to Africa’s transformation objectives.

This program equips rising scholars in economics and associated fields with financial support, expert guidance, and professional exposure to produce meaningful research that can inform inclusive economic development and policy changes throughout Africa.
Program Significance
Africa’s development relies on robust, evidence-driven policies created by Africans with a deep understanding of the continent’s distinct economic and social contexts. Beyond monetary assistance, the YLR Grant serves as a launchpad for cultivating future African thought leaders and innovators who will impact critical transformation areas, including industry, finance, governance, and sustainable development.

Who Can Apply?
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Hold an African nationality or permanent residency in an African nation.
- Be aged 35 or below when applying.
- Have obtained or are pursuing a master’s degree or advanced qualification.
- Possess academic or professional credentials in economics or related disciplines.
- Exhibit leadership capabilities and dedication to Africa’s progress.
- Provide evidence of research experience through academic work, internships, volunteer activities, or independent initiatives.
What Recipients Receive
Selected candidates will gain access to:
- Research funding up to $15,000 for policy-focused projects.
- Expert mentorship from ACET Senior Fellows and professional advisors.
- Collaboration and networking through peer learning forums and joint activities.

Submission Materials
Candidates must provide:
- A concept note (800 words maximum).
- A statement of purpose (500 words maximum).
- An updated CV.
- Two academic or professional recommendation letters.
