This initiative is designed to facilitate hands-on professional experience, deepen understanding of regional challenges, and enhance youth involvement in ECOWAS program execution. The program represents a strategic commitment to fostering regional unity and encouraging the free movement of skilled professionals across the ECOWAS region.

The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance career prospects and professional development for recent graduates by providing them with comprehensive exposure to ECOWAS operations while simultaneously improving the effectiveness of program delivery across ECOWAS institutions and affiliated organisations.

Eligible Participants

This opportunity is designed for recent graduates from ECOWAS member nations who are between 18 and 32 years of age.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the program, applicants must:

  • Hold citizenship from one of the following ECOWAS member countries: Benin, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, or Togo.
  • Be a minimum of 18 years old and a maximum of 32 years old when submitting their application.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, Doctoral degree, or equivalent qualification.

Selection Process

The selection methodology operates as follows:

  • Available positions are designated within various ECOWAS departments and agencies for each program cycle, enabling candidates to apply based on departmental requirements.
  • A total of 80 positions are offered for 2026 as detailed in the accompanying position list.
  • A designated selection panel will conduct the final candidate evaluation.
  • Only selected applicants will receive communication regarding subsequent steps.

Program Specifications and Requirements

  • The graduate immersion experience spans 12 months without possibility of extension (running from January through December 2026).
  • Participants will be placed in ECOWAS Institutions, Agencies, Resident Representations, or other locations officially designated by ECOWAS.

Reporting Obligations

Upon completion, each participant must submit a comprehensive report in triplicate: one copy for the Department of Human Development and Social Affairs (DHAS), one for the host department, and one for personal records.

Additional Requirements

The hosting organisation will determine specific program logistics.

Participants must attend ceremonies and meetings organised by the coordinating Directorate, either in person or virtually (for those not based in Abuja).
