Princeton in Africa Fellowship

The Princeton in Africa Fellowship for 2026/2027 is currently accepting applications. Princeton in Africa (PiAf) is a nonprofit organisation that provides year-long, compensated postgraduate fellowship positions with various organisations operating throughout Africa. The program welcomes graduates from U.S.-accredited institutions as well as African-based universities through their Nexus initiative.

Qualification Criteria

General applicants seeking the 2026-27 Princeton in Africa Fellowship must meet these requirements:

  • Be young professionals or undergraduate students completing their degree by June 2026 when applying.
  • Possess a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from a four-year U.S.-accredited institution.
  • Demonstrate professional-level English proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing according to CEFR standards (Level C1 or higher). French proficiency at a professional level is advantageous for certain positions.
  • Be 35 years old or younger throughout the fellowship period (birth date of September 1, 1991, or later).
  • Maintain a valid passport through August 2027.

General applicants cannot be pursuing graduate, doctoral, or similar advanced academic studies during their fellowship period.

Nexus program applicants for the 2026-27 Princeton in Africa Fellowship must satisfy these criteria:

  • Be young professionals or undergraduate students completing their degree by June 2026 when applying.
  • Hold a bachelor’s, master’s (or equivalent), or doctoral degree from an African institution.
  • Demonstrate professional-level English proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing according to CEFR standards (Level C1 or higher). French proficiency at a professional level is advantageous for certain positions.
  • Be 35 years old or younger throughout the fellowship period (birth date of September 1, 1991, or later).
  • Maintain a valid passport through August 2027.
  • Possess citizenship in an African nation and currently reside in an African country. Those holding dual U.S. citizenship are ineligible.

Nexus applicants cannot be pursuing graduate, doctoral, or similar advanced academic studies during their fellowship period.

Key Dates:

Monday, October 27th, 2025, at 11:59 PM Eastern: Application submission deadline.

Early December 2025: Interview invitations sent to selected applicants.

January 5-9, 2026: Online interviews conducted.

February-May 2026: Successful candidates receive placement notifications. The placement process continues throughout this period.

Late May 2026: Final placement confirmations.

June 5-7, 2026: Required virtual orientation session.

June 9 – August 10, 2026: Fellowship programs commence.

June 8 – August 9, 2027: Twelve-month fellowships conclude.

Applications undergo evaluation during November and December, with interview invitations distributed by mid-December 2025.

Applicants should not contact the PiAf office to inquire about interview selection status. All candidates will receive notification regarding their interview status. If you haven’t received communication by mid-December, please verify your email spam folder.
