The Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre (Grooming Centre), a leading microfinance organisation in Nigeria, has opened applications for its 2025 University Grant Scheme through its Governing Council and Management.

This marks the third iteration of the initiative, which aims to encourage academic research and advance knowledge creation in critical areas that support economic empowerment and social progress.
The scholarship program targets students whose research focuses on microfinance, rural development, inclusive finance, social enterprise, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and women’s roles in developmental processes.
Who Can Apply?
Candidates must meet the following requirements to qualify for the Grooming Centre University Grant:
Must be currently registered as an undergraduate or postgraduate student at a Nigerian higher education institution (university or polytechnic) recognised by NUC or NBTE.

Research must fall within these categories:
- Financial inclusion
- Microfinance
- Rural development
- Social enterprise
- MSMEs
- Technological innovation
- Women’s role in development
- Other poverty reduction research focused on Nigeria
- Research should be Nigeria-focused, practical, innovative, and have potential for significant impact.
- Must provide a written, signed endorsement from their research supervisor.
- Research must demonstrate originality, innovation, and be supported by data.
- No limitations based on age, gender, religious affiliation, or ethnic background.
Award Details
- The ₦20 million fund will be allocated to successful candidates as follows:
- Undergraduate Recipients: ₦100,000 per student (100 awards available).
- Postgraduate Recipients: ₦200,000 per student (50 awards available).

- Applicants are required to provide:
- A research proposal spanning 10–15 pages containing:
- Introduction section
- Literature review
- Research methodology
- Reference list
- A single-page biographical summary
- Complete research project in digital format (submitted after project completion)
