The home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria lost to the Mexican national team in an international friendly match played in the early hours of Sunday, July 4th, 2021. A brace from Hector Herrera, and strikes from Rogelio Funes, and Jonathan Dos Santos, condemned the Nigerian side to a 4-0 loss on Sunday.

In the Nigeria Professional Football League, Kano Pillars registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Lobi Stars at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium on Sunday to move up to second place on the league table with two points below table toppers, Akwa United. Umar Hassan gifted the Sai Masu Gida the lead in the 37th minute of the game before Ebuka David made it 2-0 in the 49th minute of the encounter. Rabiu Ali made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute of the game to end the hopes of the Ortom Boys in Kaduna.

At the New Jos Stadium, Akwa United played a goalless away draw against Plateau United on Sunday to remain top of the league table with two points ahead of Kano Pillars.

In Aba, Enyimba were held to a 1-1 draw by Rivers United at the Enyimba International Stadium. The visitors took the lead through a Malachi Ohawume strike in the 33rd minute of the clash. The Peoples Elephants will respond in the 48th minute, courtesy of a Sadiq Abubakar Adamu’s goal.

Sunshine Stars of Akure recorded the only away win of the weekend with a 1-0 victory over Heartland FC of Owerri. A 60th-minute strike from Ifeagwu Ojukwu made the difference between both sides.
