Xenophobia
Following the recent spates of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other immigrants in South Africa, many Nigerians have taken to social media to express their disapproval of these attacks from The Rainbow Nation.
The week saw a bombardment of tweets from several individuals ranging from celebrities to regular folks.
I don’t rate South African men at this point … and I’m not trying to create any form of animosity between us and them (that they don’t already feel against us)
— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
It is really sad that In 2019 Xenophobia is what we are still facing and discussing as a problem
There is this subtle dislike that a lot of them (If not all) feel towards Nigerians and no matter how hard they try to hide it .. it eventually jumps out – like when AKA had a full childish grown man tantrum when they lost to Nigeria in the nations cup
— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
Worst part of this thing is South Africans (or any other foreign nationals) will never feel unsafe in Nigeria.
— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
We even treat foreigners better than we treat ourselves, which I believe needs to change. The rest of the world doesn’t respect us Cos we don’t respect ourselves
Our government needs to do a whole lot better and treat this matter with urgency, the same urgency we used to fight apartheid with them in the past
— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
It is very much the same thing https://t.co/V6UXRakxi4

Bro if you refuse to see the underlying implications of what you tweeted
— ZAHEER! (@iam_YCee) September 3, 2019
There’s really no need for the back and forth
As public figures we should always recognize the strength our platforms carry! I have no agenda or narrative to push
I’m just deeply hurt and that’s that! https://t.co/E0kKdA3fVt
AKA responds to Ycee

Ycee isn’t saying don’t rant over losing a match.

Don’t involve other factors as you know ish is sensitive and people remember things based on who you be.
One woman goes viral after she storms Shoprite for a protest
Many Nigerians Air Their views on the issue
I just smashed my DSTV console where I am now, 2 more to go. This is how show my solidarity. Dang DSTV, Shoprite and all South Aficans. I am berserk but I can't kill anybody and won't, the way I can express my vehement disapproval is by cutting#EnoughIsEnough#SayNoToXenophobia pic.twitter.com/8p9sLMvUHA

Felt like going to Shoprite this week, but in response to the outbreak of #Xenophobia in South Africa, I won't be going. I will also avoid all South African owned businesses for a week, at least.
— Onye Nkuzi (@cchukudebelu) September 2, 2019
Fortunately, I am not an MTN subscriber.
A message has to be sent, somehow.

Let's enter ShopRite in group
Take anything we like
And go out without paying
If security talk
We go rush Dem. pic.twitter.com/LGJeZIzcLX
People are saying we should keep pampering DSTV and Shoprite and Multichoice because Nigerians are working there..

MTN
Shoprite
Are all South African businesses in Nigeria .
Yes, but shutting them down will put a lot of Nigerians out of work .
In a country with over 23 percent Unemployment, that’s not the way to go.
Nigerians are still the ones working in the aforementioned places.
Presently at Shoprite, jakande lekki-epe Expressway … It's getting dirty 🙆😭😭 #SAShutdown pic.twitter.com/SfP9YMGhdv

the thing is, DSTV/SHOPRITE/MTN are not own by black south Africans, they are own by white people living in south africa, i don't think, taking any actions against these companies will solve anything
— IFÁ FUNSHO 𓋹 (@funshographix) September 2, 2019
it's just crazy seeing south Africans taking law into their hands#xenophobic
Myopic thinking, 80% of those working at ShopRite and MTN in Nigeria are Nigerians.

Some Nigerians Invade Shoprite and MTN
If you come break window pick plasma from shoprite and run away that one no be protest wo.

Another riot has broken out in Abuja. Cars being burnt and shattered. The Shoprite on the Airport Express Way the target. Stay away from that end if you can. This is from an eye-witness report.

Attacking and looting South African firms is WRONG. But BOYCOTTING them is RIGHT. Take the BUSINESS PATRONAGE you give @StanbicIBTC, @MTNNG, @DSTV and @Shoprite_NG and give it to a Nigerian firm doing the same business.
