Getting a few things and leaving a familiar territory behind in order to explore the unknown in unfamiliar territories changes us one way or another. Sometimes, we are aware of this change and sometimes we are oblivious to it. All you need to be convinced of to just get up and leave is that change is a really good thing and travelling around to places, cities and countries unknown is one of the ways you can experience real change.

Here are a few quotes to remind you of the importance of travel and how it can serve you in the long run.

1. Travelling teaches you the importance of living your life to the fullest, one day at a time: “Our battered suitcases were piled on the sidewalk again; we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life.” – Jack Kerouac

2. Travelling helps you understand your world and the people in it better: “Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends” – Maya Angelou

3. Travelling teaches you to judge less: “Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.” – Mark Jenkins

4. Travelling affords you the opportunity to appreciate the beautiful places waiting to be discovered: “Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us, or we find it not.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

5. You can find your own truth by travelling: “If you’re brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting, which can be anything from your house to bitter, old resentments and set out on a truth-seeking journey, either externally or internally, and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue and if you accept everyone you meet along the way as a teacher and if you are prepared, most of all, to face and forgive some very difficult realities about yourself, then the truth will not be withheld from you” – Elizabeth Gilbert.

6. Travelling throws you off balance which is a good thing to experience at times: “When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable.” – Clifton Fadiman

7. Travelling makes you appreciate better the place you call home: “Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.” – Terry Pratchett.
