Good posture is associated with smartness and youth. Poor or impaired posture gives the appearance of an unhealthy or a handicapped person, this is why most people strive to stand up tall and straight. A hunched posture can also make you look as if you have low self-esteem. It is therefore very important to achieve a perfect posture so as to maintain both physical and mental health. Here are a few helpful tips that can aid your journey towards a better posture.
- Do not slouch: Hunching your back forward while walking or sitting down can ruin your posture. It can re-shape your skeleton and also cause neck and back pain. While working, always remember to keep your back as straight as possible.
- Balance it out: When carrying heavy parcels, it is better to balance out the load and carry it equally in both hands instead of one. Doing this will allow the spine to be in a straight position instead of curving to one side as a result of the pressure the load is exerting.
- Avoid sleeping on your belly: Sleeping on your belly might sometimes seem comfy but it should be avoided as much as possible to ensure a straight back. Sleeping on your belly can put pressure on your spine, causing it to take a different shape.
- Avoid sitting for long periods: Always take intermittent breaks away from your work desk. Stand up, walk around and do stretches.
- Exercise: This is a sure way to keep your posture upright. A simple routine like standing up straight against the wall with the feet and the head touching the wall will go a long way in improving your posture, doing this for about ten minutes daily will certainly help.
