We all have fears. Some may be positive; while others may downright be negative. To boost your inner game, you’ve got to be able to manage your fears while still gunning for your goals. Feelings of fear you have to deal with include:
1. When you feel undeserving If you were born in a poor home, you may be prone to feel undeserving of earning good money. As a result, you may never charge top dollar (or naira) for your offerings. Until you get rid of that childhood conditioning. In the same vein, if you witnessed your father run a small business and make a success of it, the chances of you scaling up your business is practically zero, until you get rid of that conditioning.
2. Fear of going against societal norms You fear societal claims that you’ve changed. This really applies to women (men can also feel it). As there is a certain unwritten rule in society that women must not cross certain business and achievement boundaries (even though that is changing now). As a woman, when you start getting to certain levels, you may fear and sabotage yourself. You may call it off altogether. Just for the fact that you want to conform. You’ve got to get rid of this conditioning and give yourself permission to succeed. Don’t forget you only get to live, once in a lifetime. Don’t screw it. You owe it to yourself, to other women and to generations yet unborn to break the proverbial glass ceiling.
3. Fear of failure This fear gets to defeat you before you even get started. Before you make an offer, you’re already envisioning the rejection you will get from prospects. At that moment, you start feeling sorry for yourself and end up not making the offer at all. This might have come from childhood experiences and what people have told you over time. If you grew up in an environment where people constantly told you you’re not going to amount to anything in life, you’re going to have the fear of failure. At the time, you believed whatever was told you (whether true or false as most of the people who said it happened to be authority figures in your life like your parents or teachers.
You can crawl out of the false things that you have heard from the past. Read Jeremiah 29 verse 11 to know God’s plan for your life.
4. Fear of success The day I got to know that this fear could stop the attainment of goals, I almost didn’t believe it, but, when you look at it critically, it’s true. There are certain levels you just can’t attain in business if you’re afraid of success. You’ll just want to run a small, family-owned business instead of a conglomerate (even though you’re capable). Because you don’t want to deal with the pressure.
You’ve got to get rid of this fear to boost your inner game. Otherwise, you’re going to reject certain business deals, just because you’re afraid of the success you’re going to enjoy as a result of it.
