  As part of safety measures and adapting to the new normal of not holding public events physically to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the Osun State University on Monday, September 21, 2020, graduated 1,946 of its student in a virtual convocation ceremony. The school administration in a bid to have something close to what it was supposed to be, sent convocation kits to students through the use of courier service as ninety-five per cent of students indicated an interest by registering for the virtual event.

Of particular interest is the fact that 35 students bagged first class while 603 of them graduated with a second class upper degree, as 972 settled for second class lower, and 274 in third class. Commenting on the development, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Labode Popoola, expressed his delight at the convocation being held virtually, stating that it was part of measures aimed at adapting to the current state of things globally. While delivering the convocation lecture, Professor Jeffery D. Sachs, who is the Director of the Centre for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, New York, expressed his excitement at the event holding virtually and looked forward to when he will visit the academic institution.

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has also urged universities in the state to lead the pack in helping the society confront challenges posed by COVID-19. Oyetola called for more attention towards research, innovation, and technology, as it is the best means towards getting the globe ready for future eventualities.
