I never believed that Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) could be used for non-cooking purposes till someone mentioned it. What with that weird smell, taste, and level of acidity. Since being told about it, I have to say I now have many tested and trusted ACV hacks under my belt. Apple Cider Vinegar is made from fermented apples, and it contains healthy bacteria that are beneficial to the body. ACV is a common pantry staple, and a lot of times it only gets used once in a while. Why let it expire when you can make use of it in more beneficial ways? Using ACV around the house and on your body is very safe, especially when compared to most of the hazardous substances that we use for the same purposes. If you have been coming across different uses of apple cidar vinegar but do not quite believe in its awesomeness, here are three tested and trusted uses you can try now. Kill Dandruff Apple Cider Vinegar is very effective in treating dandruff. If your head has been itching constantly and no brand of shampoo seems to be working, try ACV as a conditioner and see the difference. Mix equal parts water and ACV and rub into your scalp after you have washed it with shampoo. Leave mixture in for 10 minutes, then rinse off. After a few applications, you are definitely going to notice the difference. By the second time I used it, my head was no longer itching from dandruff. You can also make the mixture as 25% ACV and 75% water, but never let the ACV be more than the water because of the level of acidity. As A Skin Toner Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with equal parts water and applied to the face after a shower helps in firming and toning of the facial skin. Apply to the face after a shower, using a cotton ball. Remember to keep away from your eyes. You can moisturise your face afterwards and continue with your usual facial regimen. Mixture can be kept in a bottle and put in the refrigerator. Even if you don’t want to take a shower, you should wash your face before applying the ACV and water mixture. As A Deodoriser Whether it is stale fridge contents, urine smell in the bathroom, spilled drinks on the floor or cooking smell from the kitchen, you can use apple cider vinegar to get rid of smell within the house. For the refrigerator, simply soak a cotton ball in undiluted ACV, and put in the fridge. It will absorb all unpleasant odour. For other more open spaces, put ACV in a bowl and leave in the open so that it can easily absorb the smell. Always remember that apple cidar vinegar should never be consumed or used on the body undiluted. Mix either with equal parts water, or with a higher volume of water, and always keep out of the reach of children. About the author: Amina Salau is a writer and editor running The Illuminated Pen.
