Nigeria is the only team at the tournament to win all three group games.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria wrapped up the group stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in grand style after beating Guinea Bissau  2-0 at the Stade Roumde Adjia, Garoua on Wednesday night, January 19, 2022. Goals from Almeria of Spain striker Sadiq Umar and Watford FC of England defender William Troost-Ekong was all the three-time African champions needed to see off the Djurtus of Guinea Bissau

Coach Austine Eguaveon fielded a new starting eleven with the trio of Troost-Ekong, Wilfred Ndidi, and Kelechi Iheanacho being the only regulars from the last two encounters to start the game. The Super Eagles dominated proceedings in the game, but it will take a fine curled pass from Leicester City of England man, Kelechi Iheanacho, that met Sadiq Umar who easily slotted the ball in for Nigeria’s first goal of the encounter in the 56th minute of the game. Substitute Moses Simon would dribble past the Djurtus defence in the 75th minute before unleashing a strike that hit the crossbar and met by the onrushing Troost-Ekong for Nigeria’s second goal of the encounter.

With the win, Nigeria finished the group stage as the only team in the tournament to gain all 9 points. The Super Eagles beat Egypt 1-0 in their first game before recording a 3-1 win over Sudan in their second group game. So far, Nigeria has scored six goals and conceded just one, courtesy of a penalty awarded to Sudan in their second group game. Featured Image Source: Vanguard News
