Awaziem missed out on the first two games against Egypt and Sudan due to an ankle injury but was spotted during Monday evening’s (January 17) training session at the VSTS-ANNEX, Roumde Adjia Stadium, Garoua. Having booked qualification into the knockout rounds with a game to spare, coach Austin Eguaveon has hinted at the possibility of giving other players the opportunity to start against Guinea Bissau on Wednesday night, January 19, 2022, and Awaziem will be hoping that the former Gombe United manager selects him for the match scheduled to hold by 8 pm (WAT).

“Obviously, we will make changes for the last group game against Guinea-Bissau. We have depth in the team and it’s a good opportunity for the other players to play. We will play to win the game and I trust the players to do a great job.” Austin Eguavoen
The Super Eagles beat the Pharaohs of Egypt 1-0 in their opening game on January 11 and beat Sudan 3-1 on January 15, to top Group D of the continental showpiece with 6 points and book a second-round ticket. Nigeria will be aiming to beat Guinea Bissau or earn a draw to ensure they finish as group leaders. The Djurtus will be aiming to upset the three-time African champions to book a qualification slot either as second on the group or as one of the best losers.
