  Amidst the widespread scepticism and anxiety surrounding taking the COVID-19 vaccines in Nigeria, those who are very much interested in getting vaccinated have rarely been disposed to the resources that will make things easy for them.

To this effect, and to further make the process of getting the Vaccine simpler, by cutting off usual government bureaucracy, the ministry of health has decided that technology comes to the rescue.

Who Is Eligible To Receive The Vaccination?

Healthcare workers and top government officials were at the top of the list of people to receive the vaccine. As stated by the NPHCDA, healthcare workers were a major part of those prioritised because of the frequency of exposure to the Covid19 virus alongside the military, police, oil and gas workers, customs workers, and strategic leaders. Nigeria is the third African country, after Ghana and Ivory Coast, to benefit from the COVAX vaccine scheme. In all, Nigeria is expected to receive a total of 16 million free doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from COVAX in the coming months while the vaccine will be administered to citizens without charges. The wait to be vaccinated against the coronavirus is finally over for Nigerians. On the 2nd of March, Nigeria received a total of 3.92 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The ministry, through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), launched an online portal and announced the guidelines for registrations.

How To Register On The Portal

Federal Ministry of Health’s Electronic Management of Immunization Data (EMID) is the registration portal where the biodata of registrants are kept in an ordered manner to schedule vaccinations. Registering on the platform will make your vaccination easier and faster.

Nigerians who want to register can visit the NPHCDA’s registration portal. A working internet connection is all that is required for registration. The details that are required to fill on the portal are basic. You will need to fill in information such as full name, phone number, email address, date of birth, sex, a form of ID, a residential address including states, LGA of residence, and ward of residence is all that is required to fill the vaccination form. There is also an opportunity for you to select a preferred vaccination date and time before proceeding to upload a passport photograph. A section in the form also asks if you are a worker in the health sector and if you have any medical conditions or allergies. Finally, there is a code that you are presented with and you are required to type in, to complete your vaccine registration process. Once this is done, you will get a message on your phone number that your registration has been completed. You will also be issued a vaccination ID which reads:
“Registration Completed!  Your Vaccination ID is: ******. Thank you for taking the time to fill the form, you will receive an SMS and email shortly containing your Vaccination No. and other instructions.”
There exist testimonies of those who were able to take their vaccine jabs at any of the primary healthcare centres nationwide as early as the next day after registration. Featured Image Source: YourStory
