The nominations for the award pitched Burna against fellow Nigerian act, Wizkid, Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz, Emicida of Brazil, Aya Nakamura (France), Headie One (United Kingdom), Youssopha (France), and Young T & Bugsey (United Kingdom). The 2021 edition of the awards which was hosted by high profile Hollywood actress and six-time BET Best actress winner, Taraji P. Henson, saw Burna Boy, the self-acclaimed “African Giant’’ win the award for the third time since 2019.
