Scotland, Argentina Draw Revives Hopes of Knockout Round
The Super Falcons are taking in a breath of fresh air after Argentina and Scotland’s theatrical 3-3 draw in their final Group D match at the ongoing Women’s World Cup.
Argentina Vs Scotland
Knowing that their hopes rested on a draw between Argentina and Scotland, the Falcons were greatly dismayed when Scotland grabbed a 3-goal lead and maintained their dominance into the late minutes of the encounter.
Lady Luck, however, had the Falcon’s best interests as the Argentine team quickly rose to the occasion and equalized the game with only a few minutes to go.
A live instagram video feed by Super Falcons captain, Desire Oparanozie, showed the Falcons in great excitement five minutes to the end of the game, as their hopes of making it into the next round received a massive boost.
The same rule which almost sent the Nigerian team back home was the saving grace of our girls with the referee ordering a retake of Argentina’s penalty, which was earlier warded off by the Scotland’s goalkeeper.
Maybe it’s just poetic justice or an act of providence, we may never know.
However, the watch has not ended, the Falcons now hope that New Zealand hold Cameroon or either teams win the game with not more than a three goal margin.
Also, Thailand must not lose by more than three goals to Chile, having already conceded 17 goals in the competition.
Now we wait for the outcomes of the matches on Thursday, June 20, and hope the odds are in the favor of the Nigerian team yet again.
