Nigeria’s national Beach Soccer team, the Super Sand Eagles, are set to depart the country for Paraguay on Friday, November 8, 2019, ahead of the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
Players and officials of the sand Eagles will jet out for the South-American country with high hopes of having a decent outing at the global showpiece. Nigeria qualified for the 10th edition of the global event after finishing second at the 2018 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt.
Two-time African champions, Nigeria, will compete in this year’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup scheduled to hold from November 21, 2019- 1st December, 2019, in Asuncion, the capital city of Paraguay. The ‘Los Pynandi’ World Cup Stadium, named after the Paraguayan national beach soccer team, and located at the headquarters of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee in Greater Asuncion, will serve as venue for matches.

We are travelling early to Asuncion in order to participate in an eight-nation pre-competition tournament that will take place in Asuncion, 12th – 16th November. After the tournament, the team will continue intensive training ahead of our first match against Portugal on 22nd November.
Sunday Okayi (Team Administrator)
Nigeria, alongside Senegal, United Arab Emirate, Oman, Belarus, Tahiti, Paraguay, (and another team to be confirmed), will compete at the pre-competition tournament in Paraguay. The Super Sand Eagles reached the quarterfinal of the 2007 and 2011 editions and have a huge task ahead as they are drawn in Group B which comprises of Brazil (ranked number one globally), Portugal (world number two), and Oman (ranked 14th in the world); Nigeria occupies the 21st spot globally. Paraguay will file out against Japan in what would be the tournament’s curtain raiser on November 21. The coach Audu Adamu led Nigerian team will open their campaign in the World Cup against Portugal on November 22th, Oman on November 24th, before squaring off against Brazil on the 26th.
