Nigerian football stars have been shortlisted for the preliminary list of players for the 2019 CAF African Player of the Year Award, which is slated to hold in Egypt by January 7, 2020.
The trio of former Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo; Leicester City FC of England midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi; and Lille of France striker, Victor Osimhen, made the list of the best football stars on the continent. It will be recalled that Ighalo, prior to retirement from national team duty, emerged the highest goal scorer at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt with five goals.

Wilfred Ndidi played his 100th Premier League game for Leicester on Saturday, 23rd November 23 and has been instrumental in the Foxes quest for a surprise league title. Victor Osimhen has witnessed a great start to life at the French Ligue 1, bagging 7 goals in 13 league appearances for Les Douges so far.
Women’s Category
For the womenās category, three-time African Female Footballer of the Year winner, Asisat Oshoala, made the list alongside Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie.
Samuel Chukwueze and Osimhen are set to go head-to-head in the Youth Player of the Year category alongside other young stars across the continent.

Coach Gernot Rohr, who led the Super Eagles to a third place finish at the 2019 AFCON, has been nominated for the Menās Coach of the Year award. While Thomas Dennerby, who won the last edition of the Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) with the Falcons and led them to a second round finish at the FIFA Women World Cup before vacating his post, has also been nominated in the Womenās Coach of the Year category.
