The
Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the final round of the
2019 African Cup of Nations, after missing out on the last two editions of the tournament.
The three-time African champions will be looking to make their stand and stake a claim to the AFCON title when the tournament begins next year in Cameroon. However, with the calibre of teams Nigeria has faced so far and will meet in the immediate future, the Super Eagles must train effectively if they want to win their fourth AFCON title.
To make sure the Super Eagles do not run into any surprises, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has directed the team to begin training immediately. But first, the technical crew must submit its programme for the competition.
The NFF made this decision in an executive committee meeting held in Asaba on Tuesday, stating that the only way the Super Eagles could win next year’s AFCON is if the team begins training immediately.
In an official statement issued after the meeting, the NFF ruled that, the Super Eagles’ technical crew, headed by Gernot Rohr, must submit a programme of preparation that would ensure that every available window for a friendly match before Cameroon 2019, is properly utilized.
Rohr, who had earlier disclosed that the programme would be out before the end of the year, said Nigeria’s final group game against Seychelles would be a good way to test some players who have not featured for the Super Eagles before.
