The final race of the 2018 Cycling Lagos competition which was earlier scheduled for Saturday has been moved to Saturday 27, October.

According to the organizers of the event, asides logistical reasons, the committee had to postpone the finals due to the temporary closure of the Third Mainland Bridge by the Federal Government. The bridge is a major route for the racers who were to compete in the finals, hence the delay of the final event.

Mr Soji Adeleye, Chairman Cycling Lagos, pinned the abrupt postponement of the finals to organization, management and other race logistics. However, he also stated that the main cause for the delay was the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge by midnight of Thursday, August 23.

“Due to a combination of reasons, logistics, and the coincidence of the temporary closure of the Third Mainland Bridge, we are moving the last event – the grand finale of the Cycling Lagos 2018 to Saturday, October 27, 2018.

“The grand finale is the main and last event of the Cycling Lagos 2018 calendar that has witnessed the Mini Tour of Lagos, the Children Cycling competition amongst others.” – Adeleye told TheGuardian.

Meanwhile, young champions have emerged from the Children’s edition of the Cycling Lagos event held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on August 18, 2018. The likes of Okiki Abiodun and Opeyemi Abiodun, who won the senior and junior boys category respectively, while Ajirotutu Toluwalase claimed the highest honour in the female category.
