Organizers of the Ikogosi Mararthon, which is scheduled to hold at Ikogosi-Ekiti on Saturday, December 14, 2019, have revealed that no less than 2,000 runners, inclusive of 30 elite athletes, have confirmed their participation in the sporting event.

The executive Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, while being presented with his race materials by organizers of the marathon led by Niyi Labiran on Tuesday, December 10, assured participants of adequate security and great atmosphere for a hitch-free competition. He also stated that his administration is committed to providing platforms for citizens of the state, especially the youth, to display their skills and talents.

In a bid to build the capacity of Ekiti youth, Fayemi noted that his government will be consistent in partnering with relevant organizations committed to youth development. In other to meet global standards, Governor Fayemi noted that his government would provide necessary support for Saturday’s Marathon and other sporting events in the state, and pointed out the importance of grassroots sports development which he believes will produce world class sports men and women in the state.

It is our desire to engage our youths positively and that explains our huge investment in their education and human capital development. It is my belief that platforms like the Ikogosi Marathon will help discover more talents which we will then nurture.
