About 200 primary and secondary school students have received first-rate
cricket training in Nasarawa state.
The orientation program, which was sponsored by the
Cricket Federation of Nigeria in partnership with Price House Water, was made available to pupils across ten schools in the state — to start them on the path to becoming cricketing masters.
The selected schools are;
- Yumaco international Academy
- Mallam Isa Memorial Academy
- Set Nursery and Primary School
- Maikefi Memorial Academy
- Al-Amin Nursery/Primary School
- Lafia East Primary School
- Dunama Primary School
- James Primary School
- Unguwa Jenlele Primary School
- Tudun Kawari Primary School
The Regional Development Officer for the NCF, North Central, Peter Yakubu, told
Punch that the choice to bring the cricket games to the state amidst other states in the region was because of the slow growth of the sport in the state since its introduction.
Peter went on to state that the selection of young cricketers will encompass the 13 local government areas and 18 development areas of the state. Prospective cricketers will be trained on different techniques and skills to strengthen their knowledge of the game and prepare them for the forthcoming youth games.
“Our aim of coming to Nasarawa state is to introduce cricket in the state and to ensure that they participate at the forthcoming youth games.”
— Peter Yakubu
