Nigerian athletes at the ongoing All Africa Games in Morocco have continued to impress with record-breaking performances. Tobi Amusan is the rave of the moment after breaking a 20-year-old All African Games record that was previously held by another Nigerian, Gloria Alozie. On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, Amusan won the 100m Hurdles event, setting a new record of 12.68 seconds. Alozie previously held the record with a time of 12.74 seconds during the 1999 edition of the African event.
I am happy I won the race which is the most important thing, but it was [quite] a… rough race for me.

For the women’s Javelin event, Nigeria’s Kelechi Nwanaga won gold after a 55.88m distance throw. Nigeria’s total tally at the medals table saw more positives as Favour Ofili beat her personal best of 51.90 seconds to win the 400m silver with a new personal best of 51.68 seconds on Wednesday. Ofili’s outing at the All African Games is her first senior outing for Nigeria, and the African Youth Champion has now qualified for the 2019 World Championships in Doha. Chidi Okezie also made it to the medals stand in the men’s 400m event.
