On 23rd April, children and adults across the globe celebrated the annual World Book Day. The event was originally founded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to promote reading, publishing and copyright. In celebration of this Day, here are a few interesting facts to learn about reading: 1. Fiction books are believed to increase a person’s level of empathy towards others. 2. Scientists believe that people who read often are less likely to be diagnosed with the mental ailment, Alzheimers. 3. Most homes valued at over $250,000 have a library. 4. Those who worked for the late John F. Kennedy – a former president of the United States, were encouraged to practice speed reading daily. 5. The late French leader, Napoleon reportedly read 2,000 words a minute. 6. People who read are more likely to learn something new every day. 7. Reading frequency declines after age eight 8. Reading aloud to babies keeps them calm and helps to condition them to recognize your voice. 9. Frequent reading can help a person speak intelligently. 10.
