Pack Your Medication

Add to your first aid kit some drugs you might need like paracetamol, vitamins, antacids and antihistamines. If you don’t have time to get these drugs or any allergy medication you need, have a list of the drugs. So you can buy them when you get to your destination. Research the potential sicknesses affiliated with your destination and take medications to treat or prevent them. If you are travelling out of Nigeria, get your vaccinations and Medical records up-to-date. You might need them at an entry point in or out of the country. Make sure you schedule a doctor’s appointment at least 6 weeks before your trip if you are unsure of your medical needs per trip.

Take Care Of Your Body

Allow yourself to sleep while travelling. Your body needs all the rest it can get before you arrive at your destination. Make sure you pace yourself during your trip, don’t fill up your itinerary with activities that will wear you out. Create time to exercise daily, light stretches or warm-ups to help get your body going before your trip. When you get a break during your trip, like a stopover or a transit switch up, use the chance to be active. Carry bottled water around with you if you don’t trust the source of the tap water.

Also, Don’t drink too much and you will have reduced bathroom breaks. Eat fruits, fibre and vegetables, don’t skip breakfast. Know what works for your body and stick to it, don’t eat beans before your trip if it sends you to the toilet afterwards. Avoid foods that can cause stomach troubles during your trip. It is the little things we do for our body daily that keep us healthy in the long run.

Observe COVID Precautionary Measures

This season prompts the need to talk about COVID in view of staying healthy while travelling. No one wants to travel healthy and return sick. Maintain social/physical distance at all times, avoid contact with anyone that is sick, and limit the number of surfaces touched. Wash your hands with soap under running water or when you use the bathroom. Also, wear your face mask in an enclosed space, or use 60% alcohol-based hand sanitisers where there is no soap. Travel with a transport company that respects COVID precautions. Have a plan for what you will do if you test positive for COVID during your trip. And make sure you stock up on drugs to improve your immune system. Travelling can be very stressful and if the risks outweigh the benefits, then it is best not to travel at all.
