Restaurant Review: Maubby’s Purple Box

When my cousin, Ifunanya mentioned the restaurant under review, I asked her to tell me her first impression. She said it was different, almost like a breath of fresh air. This aroused my curiosity. So, I asked her for more details. Here’s what she had to say:

When I first walked into Maubby’s Purple Box at Wuse 2, Abuja my first thought was that this restaurant had a solution to some of our healthy eating challenges. It’s a salad restaurant but their menu also includes healthy juices, parfaits and sandwiches. The environment was neat. They had very few dining tables and chairs so it’s, for the most part, a grab-and-go setting.

The salad was an attraction for me. When I told my cousin, Ada, that I was craving it, she told me that Maubby’s had the best salad in all of Abuja; I took her word for it because I know she loves exploring restaurants. Anyways, I wasn’t disappointed. If at all, Maubby’s exceeded my expectation. The salad at this restaurant is not regular. E get better levels. It is far higher in rank than the coleslaw, the commonest salad in Nigeria. Even though it’s on the same level as the Nigerian salad, the big masquerade that we reserve for special occasions, it seems wonderfully exotic; you’ll have to experience it to understand what I mean.

At Maubby’s Purple Box, you get to create your own salad using the ingredients of your choice. This, for me, is all shades of amazing; I hate seeing pasta in my salad but it’s, unfortunately, a common ingredient in most Nigerian restaurant’s salad recipes. By building my own salad from the scratch, I won’t waste valuable time on pasta pick out. Back to my gist, you’d find three types of salad bowls at Maubby’s. There is the medium bowl, the regular bowl and the super bowl. Your choice of bowl determines your salad size. I chose the regular bowl so I had a base, ten toppings and a favourite topping. For the dressing, I chose the house dressing, which was great, by the way. I also added spicy chicken to the plate. The total money spent was four thousand naira. The salad cost two thousand naira; the bowl cost five hundred naira and the spicy chicken cost a thousand, five hundred. That’s the most I’ve spent on a plate of salad but mehn, it was well worth the price. The ingredients were fresh, the portion, generous. The chicken was well seasoned, moist and tender.

Finally, I loved my Maubby’s Purple Box experience. I daresay that life in Abuja begins with a taste of Maubby’s salad.
