Nigerian Students Make Laptops and Tablet PCs

Two students, Eyiolawi Gbenga, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, and Afolabi Mark, a 200-level student of Food Science Technology, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, have made tablet PCs and Laptops. They presented their work at the National Centre for Technological Management, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Their company, Knack International Limited, is promoting and offering the products for sale. They said, “We have been able to work on our own for the limited funds that we have started with. There is no any external support for funds. Before we came into ICT, we were doing consulting for real estate. It is the money from here that we get that we have converted and used to do the products.” “We hope to partner different distributors, different organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations, government Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as professional bodies as our products are very new but have added value of each sector. We believe we would scale through.” On pricing they said, “It depends on the grammage and memory capacity of each product, but it ranges from N20,000 to N50,000”.
