Nestlé Nigeria to Hold Creating Shared Value Media Workshop

In a bid to improve the understanding and reporting skills of media practitioners, Nestlé Nigeria is set to organize the fourth edition of Creating Shared Value (CSV) Media Workshop.
The workshop which will be declared open by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Nigeria, Dharnesh Gordhon, will focus on mainstreaming Nutrition, Water and Agriculture/Rural Development reporting in the media.
Dr. Chris Isokpunwu, Head of Nutrition for the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria will speak on “Addressing the multiple burden of malnutrition through micronutrient fortification”.
Dr. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika, the Head of Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos will discuss “Improving water access, sanitation and hygiene practices in Nigeria: The role of the media” while Dr. Omo Ohiokpehai, Technical Advisor, Processing, Products and Nutrition at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Nigeria will examine “Promoting planting and consumption of conventionally bred biofortified staple crops in Nigeria”.
Nestlé’s Creating Shared Value approach focuses the business on the long term, where the success of society and economic activity are intertwined and mutually reinforcing.
In Nigeria, the company has launched several initiatives including the Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme which provides nutrition education to primary school age children; the Nestlé/IITA Cassava Starch Project which provides high yielding cassava varieties to smallholder farmers; and the Nestlé Quality Grains Improvement Project which helps farmers to produce high quality grains by reducing mycotoxins contamination in cereals.
Nestlé Nigeria is also committed to optimizing water reuse and efficiency in its manufacturing operations and provides free clean drink water to the local community.
Nestlé Nigeria Plc. recently published Nestlé In Society: 2014 Creating Shared Value Report of Nestlé Nigeria. The 40-page publication chronicles the major CSV initiatives that the company is implementing in the areas of nutrition, rural development and responsible sourcing, water, as well as activities in environmental sustainability, and compliance and human rights.
