A toothache or tooth pain is most often caused when the nerve to a tooth is irritated. Toothaches can also be as a result of a dental infection, gum disease, plaque and dental decay.
Here are some home remedies you can try when dealing with a toothache.
Salt solution
Dissolving a teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water, can create a pain killing mouthwash, which will help clean away irritating debris and help reduce the swelling. Gurgle for 30 seconds before spitting it out; by swishing it around, saltwater goes right on to cleanse the area around the tooth and draws out some of the fluid that causes swelling. Repeat this treatment as often as needed.
Hydrogen Peroxide Solution
Hydrogen peroxide is quite helpful in stomping bacteria and bringing relieve to aching teeth. Swish with a mouthful of 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, spit and rinse your mouth with warm water. t is important to note however that white this provide temporary relief, you’ll need to see your dentist especially if the toothache is peppered by fever and a foul taste in the mouth (both are signs of infection).
Garlic
Garlic also provides immense relief from toothache. It has antibiotic and other properties that aid in reducing the pain. Crush a garlic clove and mix with table salt and apply on the affected tooth to soothe the pain. Or if you prefer, you can chew one or two cloves of garlic to get relief.
Onion
Onions also have antiseptic, antimicrobial and other medical properties that can soothe toothache. They provide relief from pain by killing the germs causing an infection. Chewing raw onion for a few minutes can help relieve the pain or if you are not able to chew it, place a piece of raw onion directly on the bad tooth or gum and hold between the teeth for a few minutes.
