This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Embrace Equity,” highlights the importance of closing the gender gap and promoting equal opportunities. Despite the fact that women make up a significant proportion of the African technology sector, they frequently face difficulties in obtaining funding and technical expertise. As a result, Google believes that empowering female entrepreneurs through these initiatives is critical to creating a more equitable and prosperous Africa. These women have raised millions in a male-dominated startup space, and Google is committed to supporting their efforts.
Google Hustle Academy
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are crucial to the economic growth of the continent and are responsible for employing more than 80% of the workforce. However, these businesses are likely to remain stagnant if they do not have the working capital required for growth. To address this issue, Google Hustle Academy has been established with the aim of equipping female-led SMEs with the necessary skills to increase their business revenue, attract investors and customers, and establish sustainable companies. Throughout March 2023, Google will host six Hustle Academy cohorts in Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, all of which will focus on women. If you are a female entrepreneur in one of these countries, you can visit http://g.co/hustleacademy to apply.Sign up for the Connect Nigeria daily newsletter
