Fitness Saturday: Why Exercise?

detox
Most people around the world, especially women, like to stay healthy. Yet, there are some others who can’t keep up with regular exercises or stay on a healthy diet. The challenge these people on the other side of the spectrum have is being able to make living healthy a lifestyle. Instead, they admire people who stay healthy or on the other hand mock them. I’m sure we’ve all heard people say things like: “Don’t kill yourself oh…” or  “you re beautiful the way you are…” or worse “… you don’t appreciate the way God created you”. I begin to wonder why out of the million reasons available, people think the only reason you should exercise and eat healthy is to lose weight. Exercising is one of the best ways to stay healthy and fight against diseases. The first thing they check when you go to the hospital is your vitals. After the results are out, the doctor would then ask questions like what’s your eating habit? Do you work out? When do you sleep? Do you drink? What are your hobbies? Etc. All these questions are asked so that the doctor can trace the cause of the ailment. On the other hand, a lot of people work out because they don’t have a choice. For instance, they may have been told in the hospital that the only way to manage their health is to work out at least 30minutes thrice a week or their condition would get worse. So they are forced to workout until it becomes a lifestyle for them. Even chiropractors would recommend certain types of exercises to help your bone, muscle or joint heal faster. Doctors and nurses would encourage that a patient finds time to exercise. Even pregnant women would be asked to walk around the hospital before they go into the delivery room because it helps with the labor. In fact, exercising reduces the risk of pre-eclampsia, reduces cholesterol and helps to balance blood pressure levels during pregnancy. Apart from exercising, it’s advised that we eat fruit every day even if its a slice to stay healthy. An apple a day they say keeps the doctor away. Why not just patronize the malam at the junction who sells carrots, apples, pineapples, pawpaw, cucumber etc. God must have a perfect reason why he created fruits in different shapes, sizes, colors, and taste. So go ahead and try as many as you can. Stay tuned for the next post as I guide you through living healthy.
