To use as a substitute for black pepper, crush the seeds using a mortar and pestle or grinder. It tastes like a blend of pepper and mustard. You can season your meat with them before you cook the meat. It also acts as a meat tenderizer and adds flavour. The fresh or dry seeds can be used as a supplement when eaten raw, ground or crushed in salad dressings, milk, or honey. Dry seeds can retain their nutritional value for 6 to 12 months when kept frozen. Taking the seeds with honey have possible health benefits too.
