Corona Virus: Jack Ma Donates Medical Aids To Nigeria

In a bid to fight and contain the spread of the corona virus globally, Chinese billionaire and businessman, Jack Ma has sent in aid to Nigeria, as the most populous black nation on earth battles the continuous spread of the pandemic. Medical shipments, courtesy of Jack Ma’s initiative to help African nations fight the virus, arrived Nigeria on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, via an Ethiopian Airline flight in Nigeria’s commercial hub, Lagos.

The shipment contained 5.4 million face masks, 1.08 million detection tests, 40,000 sets of protective clothing, and 60,000 sets of protective face shields. Jack Ma’s gesture is timely at a period Nigeria is scaling up measures to contain the virus especially in Lagos state where the Commissioner of Health noted that 1,800 suspected cases were been monitored. Reacting to the positive development, the General Manager of Ethiopian Airlines, Firihiewot Mekonnen, appreciated the efforts and generosity of the Chinese billionaire.

Waiving ban on cargo flights by the Nigerian government necessitated the entrance of the donations into the country. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s corona virus cases jumped to 46 today, Wednesday, March 25, 2020 after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed two new cases, one in Lagos and the other in Osun State. Both cases were returning travelers to Nigeria within the last 7 days. With this, Nigeria has now recorded 46 cases of the corona virus with two patients discharged and one death.
