According to The Oxford Dictionary, stress is a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances. To be honest, one does not actually need a definition to know when he/she is stressed. We all have gone through stress at one point or the other in our lives, so it is not a new thing. Stress can be physical or mental depending on the situation at hand. Constantly being stressed or under pressure has an adverse effect on health and therefore should be avoided as much as possible. The following are some tips that can help you in managing and relieving stress:
- Relax first: When you begin to feel the headaches pounding at your head and your heart beating abnormally because you are being stressed, the first thing to do is to relax first. - Eat properly: Depriving yourself of good food can go a long way in stressing your body system. Food eaten at the right time is like a fuel for the body to keep working, irregular meals can worsen stress. Eat the right thing at the right time to fight stress.
- Do your hobbies: Engaging in activities that are purely meant for your enjoyment can help to take your mind off worries and work. Healthy hobbies like swimming, dancing or biking can help you exercise your body and relieve stress at the same time.
- Spend time with people: By this, we certainly do not mean spending time with people that bring out the stress in you, we mean the people that make you happy. Friends, family or colleagues can make you feel better and help in dealing with stress and the problems that come with it.
- See your doctor: If you have tried relieving stress on your own but it does not work, then maybe it is time for you to get professional help and advice before your condition worsens or becomes dangerous to your health. Make an appointment with your doctor who is familiar with your medical history to complain.
