Monday Motivation: The Other Side of WORDS

Monday Motivation: The Other Side of WORDS - www.connectnigeria.com
In Communication, we were taught that “the pen is mightier than the sword”. Trust me, we had heated arguments over it in class, as some took a stance for and others against it. Suffice to say, over the years, it has proven to be true. But I’ll paraphrase it to read ‘Words are mightier than the sword’. Why, you ask? The instruction or command that led to battles were WORDS (written or spoken). The constant repetition of words has the ability to make or mar someone, give them the needed boost or reduce them to the barest minimum. A nagging wife or hubby sends their spouse to the penthouse…not to enjoy the view from the rooftop, but to escape the coming rage! People have died, great minds stunted, their self-esteem bruised beyond repairs, gone down the spiral route of depression. Remember, death and life are in the power of the tongue. However, others have learnt the art of shaking off negatives and thriving regardless of bad words. To use words effectively: • Plan ahead what you want to say based on likely responses needed. • Be positive in your construction. • If involved in a heated discussion or argument, choose to allow the other speak whilst you silently let off steam; a soft answer turns away wrath. • Choose not to complete that sentence, if you know the outcome will be negative. Which will you be today, a builder or a destroyer? It’s your call, make it!
