YALDA has organized this competition to help young Africans better understand how the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) will affect them, and how they can take advantage of it. Accordingly, the competition is themed: “The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA): What is in it for young Africans?” and is divided into three segments. Applicants can write an essay, design an infographic, or create an animation, based on the theme. The YALDA AfCFTAYouth Creative Competition is organized in collaboration with the AfCFTA Secretariat, African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the International Trade Center (ITC), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
Benefits
The winners of this competition will benefit in the following ways:First Place
- A top prize of $1,000.
- Mentorship by staff at YALDA and partner organizations.
- Work will be published on the websites and publications of YALDA and its partners.
- Opportunity to present the work at a YALDA or partner event.
- Interview by partner media houses.
- Freelance contracts with partner institutions.
- Short internship at either the AfCFTA Secretariat or UNDP for the winner of the essay competition.

Second Place
- Second prize of $500.
- Mentorship by staff at YALDA and partner organizations.
- Works will be published on websites and publications of YALDA and its partners.
Third Place
- Third prize of $300.
- Mentorship by staff at YALDA and partner organizations.
- Works will be published on websites and publications of YALDA and its partners.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this competition, applicants should meet these conditions:- Aged between 18 and 35 years.
- A national of an African Union Member State (e.g. Nigeria).
- Submit a national ID as proof of citizenship.
- Reside temporarily or permanently in Africa or the diaspora.
How The Competition Will Unfold
The deadline for applications is Thursday, September 30.
All submissions will be assessed by a panel of judges which will consist of representatives from YALDA and its partners (Afrexim, AfCFTA Secretariat, UNECA, UNDP, ITC, and the private sector).
