The WIE Symposium 2014 took place on the 3rd of May 2014 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lagos Ikoyi. It brought together established and renowned female entrepreneurs as well as those emerging nationally and internationally. The greatly anticipated event superseded expectations with an array of women sharing their journeys to success.
The likes of Toyin Saraki, founder of the Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Folake Folarin-Coker, founder Tiffany Amber, Mo Abudu, CEO Ebony Life TV, Ruth Osime of This Day Style, Bola Adesola, CEO Standard Chartered,Folorunsho Alakija and Julie Gichuru, a television star were all present at the conference and had insightful things to share.
There were an eclectic of topics covered regarding women in fashion, modelling, NGO’s, the banking industry and the media. Many of these women gave intimate testimonies of how they started their careers as well as sharing set backs they’ve faced and overcome as wives and mothers. Young women were advised to ensure they consider their careers and the selection of life partners are compatible as well as clarifying expectations and responsibilities before marriage.
Each segment consisted of a panel of women and ended with a question and answer in order to ensure it was interactive and young inquisitive women were able to get answers to questions that would equip them with the information they needed. Meeting women from different walks of life who have managed to establish themselves through hard work and dedication was enough empowerment for all who attended.
We look forward to the next conference and the day that women who once attended will become speakers who are also celebrated for commendable achievements.
