Why You Should Have A Mentor

behindthehustle.com

The world has over 7 billion people in it and we all fall into these different categories: “the seen it all”, “the seeing it all” and “the just getting started”. It’s unwise never to reach out. Even if we are turned down, it should be seen as part of the adventure of the journey. The story of Mentor can be traced back to Homer’s Odyssey. Odysseus, King of Ithaca, fights in the Trojan War and entrusts the care of his household to Mentor, who serves as teacher and overseer to his son Telemachus. The word Mentor evolved to mean trusted advisor, friend, teacher and wise person. History offers many examples of helpful mentoring relationships: Socrates and Plato, Hayden and Beethoven, Freud and Jung. Mentoring is a fundamental form of human development where one person invests time, energy and personal know-how in assisting the growth and ability of another person. One important thing about mentors is that they help you achieve more. I believe we might never achieve our full potentials without the help of one who sees clearly more than we do. Who needs a mentor? When all that is within you hasn’t yielded the expected outcome, you need to enhance what you know with whom you know. There is someone who has been where you are and can help you step forward. To lessen  the voice of doubts from the voice in your head you need- a mentor, to acquire knowledge, the capacity to endure the character building process, to embrace the gift of exposure and most importantly to connect to your true Source. The battle of the mind can always be won with new information. I believe this serves as one.
