The Significance of Relationships

Having deep relationships that are thriving is one thing I truly cherish, and so be it one with a spouse, child or friend, I look forward to learning something from that person. Given this desire to thoroughly enjoy any and every relationship I’m in, I celebrate you as much as I can. I learn and teach whilst we are in it together. It doesn’t mean that our relationship will be devoid of friction, after all, we barely know each other and until you open up to me, I won’t know what to expect and neither would you by the way.  That said, I am willing to tread carefully or be free and explore all possibilities with you. The frictions will only make us better if we agreed to work at it and continue in the joys we share. Now I’m wondering why people give up so easily on their relationships when pressures come. I always say “Life is a bed of Roses and Roses have thorns, rather than be without the aroma the Rose gives off because it has thorns, I will enjoy the Rose, thorns and all” and life goes on! Every aspect of our life is surrounded by relationships of some sort. How do you maintain balance in each to the point that the friction between work and home relationships are reduced? By giving them your TIME, as time is truly what you can give anyone. When you are with that person, let them know they have your attention to talk with them, listen to them, laugh at some silly joke or just sit quietly and watch the night get darker. I barely make it home to meet my son before he goes to bed but when I’m home, I’m home! And I’m answering every ‘annoying, repeated question’ regardless of how tired I am. I’m receiving every hug and laughing at what he says and showing excitement at his plenty drawings, as he is forever drawing Horses, Rhinos, Dinosaurs, Me, Daddy, Goats (you name it!) That way, we maintain some sort of connection. Dear reader, like my son would ask, “Are you my friend?” Well, we will get to that bridge soon enough, till then, ponder on the need to step out of that island and make the best of the relationships around you.   About The Writer: Frances Otung loves writing and creating beauty with words you can feel.
