Entries are currently open for the Mike Okonkwo National Essay Competition for secondary school students.
Now in its 17th year, the Mike Okonkwo National Essay Competition is named after Dr Mike Okonkwo, who is the presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM). The competition, which is held as part of activities marking the birthday of DrOkonkwo, is aimed at contributing to the development of the education sector.
Students whose entries are adjudged to be the best of the submissions throughout the competition will receive prizes.
Benefits
The writers of the top three essays in the competition and the schools they represent will receive the following prizes:
- First Prize: ₦100,000 and a laptop for the student, and 3 sets of PC for their school
- Second Prize:₦75,000 for the student, and 2 sets of PC for their school
- Third Prize:₦50,000 for the student, and a PC for their school
Eligibility
Students who enter this competition are expected to meet these conditions to be considered for the prizes on offer:
- Their essay should have no more than 2,000 words
- It should be clearly typed
- It must be original, i.e. not plagiarized
- They should submit the name and detailed address of their school, as well as the name and phone number of their principal
- They should also submit their (the student’s) name, class, contact phone number, email, and recent passport photograph
