Selim Nurudeen clocked 13.55 seconds in the semi-finals of the Men’s 110m Hurdles event thus did not make it to the final showdown. Odumosu Muziat Ajoke finished in last position in the Women’s 400M Hurdles final. She cleared all the hurdles in 55.31 seconds. Earlier, she ran a good race in the semi-finals in 55.40 seconds to obtain a spot in the final starting line up but couldn’t replicate the same form in the final

For Day Eight; In Athletics, Nigeria’s hopes of an Olympic medal were dashed yesterday as the athletes failed to build on their previous performance. Obinna Metu, Egwero Ogho-Oghene and Emelieze Peter all failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Men’s 100M. They finished 5th, 4th and 5th with time of 10.35, 10.38 and 10.22 in their respective Heats.

Nigeria Awarded Year 2000 Olympic 4 x 400m Relay Gold Medal

After 12 years, the Sydney 2000 International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board has finally awarded Nigeria the men’s 4x400m relay gold medal. The United States, who were the original winners of the gold, were disqualified because a member of their team – Antonio Pettigrew, confessed to taking performance enhancing drugs during the Games.
