Pending the approval of the Nigerian Communication Commission, three Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) carriers in the Nigerian Telecommunications Industry, Starcomms, MTS and Multilinks, will merge to become CAPCOM. This will make CAPCOM become the biggest CDMA providers in the country and also grow muscle to compete with the dominating GSM carriers.
CDMA networks have been battleing issues concerning the low average revenue per user (ARPU) from a growing percentage of subscribers, who are finding cheaper ways to communicate via telecommunication options. CAPCOM should start operations by November, and may be listed on the stock exchange since Starcomms is listed.
