Okoye has been in superlative form for Sparta despite sealing an English Premier League move.
Maduka Okoye has been hailed by the head coach of Sparta Rotterdam, Henk Fraser, as one of the best young goalkeeping talents in Europe at the moment. The Super Eagles of Nigeria shot-stopper was impressive last weekend for the De Kasteelheren (The Castle Lords) as they beat Go Ahead Eagles 1-0 to maintain hopes of surviving relegation.
Fraser during his post-match press briefing praised Okoye’s growing ‘mental strength and development’ as he continues his adventure in the Dutch Eredivisie. “He has it in him to be the very best because his foundation is very grounded,” Fraser pointed. “Over time you see his mental strength and development increase and it is helping him.
“He has done well this season enough to say he is in the debate of the best young keepers in Europe at the moment.”
So far, the Nigerian national team goalkeeper has featured in 20 of the Dutch side’s 24 league games, conceding 29 times and keeping clean sheets on four occasions for Fraser’s men. Currently, Sparta occupies the 17th spot in the 18-team Dutch Eredivisie, but have two outstanding games. Sparta’s next league clash is against NEC on Saturday, March 19, 2022.
Okoye, 22, recently sealed a move to English Premier League side Watford FC and is expected to team up with the Hornets next season.
