But often, baking for events is outsourced to cake companies, in the hope that they’ll leverage their expertise to produce a befitting treat for the occasion. GidiCakes is one such company. It sells ready-made cakes for events, and also takes on baking assignments for clients who want something with particular features. But unlike most businesses in this space, it delivers cakes specifically for children. Founded in 2015, GidiCakes is based in Lagos. It operates out of two locations, both in the Surulere area of the state. Besides its physical stores, it also serves customers through its website, which functions as an online storefront.

GidiCakes has a strong social media presence as well. As of the time of this article’s publication, the company has more than 72,000 followers on Instagram. There, it showcases some of the cakes it’s made for customers and engages prospects who may want something similar made for them. On its online store, GidiCakes displays its products according to their design themes, the icing used on them, and their prices. Depending on what customers want, the company may supply them with something that’s number-themed, has smileys, or has cartoon or gaming characters drawn on them. The cakes may be petite, single, or two-tiered, and may come with fondant icing, buttercream icing, or whipped cream. Prices for these products vary significantly, ranging from under ₦10,000 to more than ₦30,000. Customers can buy cakes at the GidiCakes stores in Lagos, or order them on the company’s website, and also via the phone lines listed on its Instagram page. Orders are taken and delivered from Mondays to Saturdays.
