“Queen Moremi The Musical” Relives The Legend Of The Warrior Queen Starting This December

House of Oduduwa and Bolanle Austen-Peters Productions are set to premiere an African superhero stage play titled “Queen Moremi The Musical”.
The play is expected to bring viewers to appreciate the beauty of the ancestral Yoruba heritage through the inspiring story of the Amazon, Queen Moremi told through the medium of music and dance.
Olori Moremi
Olori Moremi was a significant 12th-century figure in Yoruba history, an epitome of courage and selflessness. She was the daughter of Ife’s bravest warrior, who grew up fighting against injustice and oppression and was later married into the royal family of Oduduwa. She was instrumental to the freedom of the Yoruba people and their victory over the dreaded “forest people”, who had over a long period enslaved them. This would cost her the life of her son as a sacrifice to Esimirin.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi, recently erected a statue in her honor, the tallest in Nigeria and fourth tallest in Africa.
The play features actors, both seasoned and upcoming, including Kehinde Bankole, Bimbo Manuel, Femi Branch, Ayo Ayoola, Deyemi Okanlawon, Bam Bam and more, will relive the legend of a courageous woman who lost everything in order to preserve the future of the Yoruba people. The producers expect to thrill audiences with live musical performance, dance, and costumes displaying royalty.
“Queen Moremi The Musical” is directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters, who CNN has described as the woman powering Nigerian theatre, and is expected to go live on stage from the 21st of December 2018 to the 2nd of January 2019.
