Nissan Motors will roll out the first set of ‘Made in Nigeria’ vehicles in April 2014. This was revealed in the outcome of a meeting President Goodluck Jonathan held with Carlos Ghosn, Chief Executive Officer of Nissan Motors during the World Ecoomic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The first set of the locally made cars, which would be 4×4 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) will be manufactured at the old Volkswagen Assembly Plant, Lagos.
Ghosn noted that the plant is capable of producing between two to three million of such cars annually, adding that the development would also see to the creation of jobs across the country.“We are interested in producing popular cars , totally adapted to the needs of Nigerians,” Ghosn told President Jonathan.
President Jonathan noted that the implementation of the country’s automotive policy would see to the growth and development of the automobile sector in the country.
