#NigeriaAt55: 25 Reasons I Love Nigeria

Are you proud of Nigeria? Are you truly Nigerian? I am proudly Nigerian and I like to show it off however and wherever I can so on this special day, I present my top 25 reasons for loving Nigeria. 1. We’re very respectful. We hold our elders in high esteem and I love that. 2. Nigerians are very resilient people. No matter how hard things get, we stay positive, happy and strong. 3. The national symbols convey great meaning to me. The green colour on the national flag symbolises agriculture, seeing that the country is endowed with arable land, while the white colour signifies unity and peace. Other national symbols include the Nigerian Coat of Arms, which depicts an eagle on a black shield, trisected by two wavy silver bands, and supported on either side by two chargers. The national motto underlies the coat-of -arms: “Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress.” 4. I love the Nigerian concept of family. The care and sense of belonging and responsibility shared within families is amazing. 5. We never let an occasion pass without celebrating it. We have greetings for a new month, a new car, job, baby, marriage etc. 6. Nigerians are very hospitable. 7. We have a great sense of humour. We also come up with very funny memes. Doubt it? Nigeria is blessed with some of the best foods in the world! The good thing about the various ethnic groups is that they have their own take on Nigerian cuisine … and every single one is delicious. 9. Nigeria is the best place to start a business. With over 160 million people and a large informal market of consumers, if you identify the right market segment and establish a business, your profit margin will go through the roof. 10. Nigeria has fascinating tourism sites. Click here to find out more. 11. We have the best comedians in the world – and I am not being biased (smiles) 12. The Nigerian accent is currently ranked by CNN Global Experiences as the 5th sexiest accent in the world. 13. Whatever kind of mood you are in, you’ll find the right kind of music in Nigeria to fit your mood. Nigerians are excellent at adding their cultural flair to existing genres. 14. We have beautiful fabrics – from ankara to tie and dye to aso oke, they are all beautiful! 15. Our women are beautiful, smart, stylish and great fashionistas. 16. Our men are caring and generous. 17. We have the best jollof rice – Ghanaians, please argue in the comment section below (winks) 18. You can shop in traffic jams – the ultimate time saver! You can get CDs, shoes, phones, home décor and food items while stuck in traffic. 19. We’re everywhere. In every country, every walk of life, you’ll find Nigerians pulling their weight, doing their share and making us proud. A Nigerian will stand out anywhere you find him or her. 20. The average Nigerian is inherently intelligent. Nigeria is the first country in Africa to successfully design, build and launch a satellite (under supervision of Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd) into orbit (NigeriaSat-X, Aug 17, 2011) 21. The agricultural potential of Nigeria will make her the envy of developed nations in years to come. 22. The taxation system in Nigeria is wonderful. The Federal government doesn’t impose heavy tax on the labour force. For instance, in Germany there is dog tax, however in Nigeria, you’re free to own as many dogs as you please without having to bother about paying the government for your pets. 23. I love Nigeria because we are divinely, strategically located and placed in Africa. 24. Nigeria has diverse ethnic groups– approximately 371 – all with their unique culture and beliefs. 25. We’re blessed with so many mineral resources (gold, tin, coal, crude oil, aluminium, etc.)   Why do you love Nigeria?
