Nigeria is to host the 3rd African Internet Governance Forum in Abuja. The forum is targeted at considering and adopting efficient ways to improve internet service and internet access in the continent. The secretariat of the Forum announced this on Tuesday at the UN Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa that the 3rd AfIGF will hold from July 10th to July 12. This forum is part of a global 10-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+10)
The secretariat in a statement said that the forum would make recommendations for consideration and adoption by African governments and stakeholders on the best ways to improve internet services and internet access.
The African Internet governance space has been active in the lead up to the World Summit on Information Society in 2005, when the Internet Governance Forum was established. Egypt hosted the first AfIGF between October 2 and October 4, 2012 while Kenya hosted the second between September 23 and September 26, 2013.
